Which mushrooms can you find in the Landes?

You are on holidays in Sanguinet at the Domaine des Oréades and you would like to take the opportunity to collect mushrooms in the Landes. It comes at the right time! The region is overflowing with these delights! Which mushrooms are you going to find? Where are they hidden? We are telling everything!

 

The Bordeaux cep or boletus

This Bordeaux cep or boletus is collected from the end of June to the end of October, sometimes later as it is this year thanks to the mildness of the climate. It can be found among lobed-leaved trees in the coniferous forests, in open areas such as glades, grassy areas, tree-lined banks and along waysides.

It is to note that its eruption comes after a few days the eruption of the fly agaric, a very poisonous mushroom which can be found in the same places.

 

 

The boletus erythropus

The boletus erythropus can be found from the middle of the summer until the end of the autumn under old oaks, but also under the coniferous trees on edge of forest, clearings and woods with lobed-leaved trees.

Note that it is possible to confuse these two mushrooms: the boletus satanas and the boletus luridus.

 

 

Mushrooms of the Landes: be careful with the bay boletus!

 

 

The bay boletus

This very good mushroom with the delicious nutty taste can be collected during the middle of summer until the end of autumn mainly on and around slumps and decomposed wood of the forests of coniferous. You will have all the chances to find them also on the embankments or paths of the woods of coniferous, around ditches, even on the stone soil.

Note that this mushroom can hide heavy and also radioactive metals… It is the reason why you can collect it only in remote places far away from any form of pollution and eat it with parsimony.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The orange cap boletus

The orange cap boletus can be collected from the middle of summer until the end of autumn. It can be found mainly in the aspen woods, more rarely under other lobed-leaved trees, more often on clay soils and in the wet depressions, hollowed firebreaks and near ditches, most of the time hidden in grassy areas when it is dry.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Jersey cow mushroom

This yellow mushroom can be found from the end of summer until the end of autumn mainly in the pine woods, often in the grassy areas and the Landes, as it likes open areas and acid soils.
