The Beach

More than 100km of sandy beaches, dunes, waves and spray. There is no better way to enjoy springtime walks in the open country air without risk of sunburn or crowds. The nearest beaches to Sanguinet are naturally at Biscarrosse , as well as at the Bassin d’ Arcachon. But for a day, you can go up to Mimizan… and even Hossegor with its slightly coarser sand and its intrepid surfers.

Hossegor

The Forest

With a surface area of more than 200 000 hectares, the regional nature park of Les Landes de Gascogne provides dozens of protected marked-out paths for short as well as more challenging hikes, according to your tastes. There is varied vegetation which you can admire on foot, on mountain bike, on horseback, or in a canoe.

You can leave directly from Sanguinet, or set off by car and begin your walk from Bias for instance, to follow the Bourg Vieux (old village) footpath located south of Mimizan, and let the pines and sand hills weave their magic.

Lakes and Marshes

If you already know Sanguinet lake,  why not head for  Biscarosse pond for a boat ride, or go up to  Parentis lake, the pond at Aureilhan,or even the pond at Lacanau in the North ? A picnic bag, a large plaid, a pair of sunglasses and a warm jumper, just in case, and you’re away !  How great to take a little nap by the water. Who said that holidays mean only swimming ?

And if you have the energy, you can go as far as the Orx Marsh, at Labenne in the South West of Les Landes  – a beautiful unspoilt piece of countryside  where 245 species of migratory birds, amphibians and reptiles have found their own paradise.
